Desk Fans Letter code: D |
Desk fans with the letter D in their model number are the earliest Vornado fans out there, generally speaking these were made from 1945-1949 and have bakelite blades 10" in diameter. I have little experience with these earlier ones and I have yet to determine the differences between most of them.
The earliest models had blade guards consisting of vertical bars and "Vornadofan" written across the front, later ones had the spiral guard with the same lettering.

Letter code: C |
Desk fans with the letter C in their model number are the later, and most common, desk fans. They were made from 1950-1958 and for the most part had three different variations over the years. The earliest variation is recognizable by it's brass guard which has the fewest amount of rings vs the other variations. The second and third have an aluminum guard with more rings than the first one, and the third was offered in four various color schemes, traditional Vornado Green, Coral Rose, Mint Blue, or Mist Gray
For ease of reading I have broken this up into the various model sizes offered

Non-turnabout Window Fans Letter code: E |
These types of window fans were just the same as any other of the era and came in sizes larger than the turnabouts were available in. I have little information about the dates they were made except for when the examples I own or have seen were made, so that is why the years aren't ranges like the above are, but it's safe to say these were produced in the same ranges as the other models of this period
